Childcare Provision

Primary Schools are now required to publish alongside their Performance Information a list of their childcare provision making it easier for parents to know what is available. Please contact any of our schools for further information.


Butterknowle Primary School


Butterknowle Primary School offers a full range of childcare provision during term-time which we have listed below:

Child Care – from January 2024

  • Breakfast Club from 8.00am – 9.00am at a cost of £3.50 including breakfast.
  • Breakfast Club from 7.30am to 8am is available by prior arrangement at a cost of £2.00
  • After School Clubs 3.15pm – 4.30pm at a cost of £3.50 each.
  • Extended After School Care from 4.30pm – 5.45pm at a cost of £4.50, which includes a light snack.

Pre-School

  • Pre-school provision for children aged 3-4 years old. Free 15 hours provision for all pre-school age children.  Available every day from 9am to 3.15pm.
  • 30 hours pre-school provision for parents/carers eligible for the government 30 hours childcare scheme.  Please note that you must confirm your eligibility the term before your child is due to start and reconfirm your eligibility every 3 months.  For more information about this scheme go to www.durham.gov.uk/3and4YearPlaces
  • Additional provision can be purchased to extend provision beyond 15 hours if the above eligibility for 30 hours is not met. For more information about our pre-school provision please contact the school office.

Frosterley Primary School


Frosterley Primary School offers a full range of childcare provision which we have listed below:

Child Care – from January 2024 

  • Breakfast Club from 8.00am – 8.55am at a cost of £3.50 including breakfast. From 7.30am to 8am is available by prior arrangement at a cost of £1.50
  • After School Care 3.30pm – 4.30pm at a cost of £3.50
  • Extended After School Care from 4.30pm – 5.30pm at a cost of £3.50.

After School Activities

At Frosterley Primary school we have a range of After School Activities

Pre-School and 2 year-olds

  • 2 year-olds provision. We offer provision for eligible families and also can be purchased.
  • Pre-school provision for children aged 3 and 4 years old. Free 15 hours provision for all pre-school age children.  Available every day from 9am to 3.30pm.
